The CIF girls volleyball playoffs begin on Thursday night and Trinity League champion Mater Dei (27-4) is seeded third in Division 1 behind No. 1 Redondo Union (35-3) and No. 2 Marymount (30-3-1). Mater Dei (27-4) has an opening round bye. Sierra Canyon (32-3) is seeded fourth.
San Juan Hills, the South Coast League runner-up, is seeded No. 2 in Division 2 behind top seed Village Christian. Santa Margarita, the Trinity League runner-up, is seeded fourth in the division.
Tustin, the Empire League runner-up, is seeded No. 1 in Division 5. The Tillers coached by Joanna Lane, are aiming for their first CIF crown in girls volleyball.
Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana, the Orange Coast League champion, is seeded No. 2 in Division 4.
There are two Orange County teams seeded in Division 7. Garden Grove, the Golden West League champion, is seeded first and Orange League champion Anaheim is seeded second.
Matches are scheduled to start at 6 p.m., but could be changed if the schools involved agree.
