Marina High School’s football team recorded its first win of the season Friday night for new coach Charlie TeGantvoort, defeating Fountain Valley 13-7 in overtime at Westminster.
“It was a good team win overcoming lots of adversity throughout the game to finally pull off a great overtime win vs. a very talented Fountain Valley who is a rival school that is in our same school district as well also is in the always powerful Sunset League,” TeGantvoort said Monday.
“Our offensive Line and our running back Anthony Fabian led the way with a great rushing attack accumulating 225 yards and two touchdowns.
“Our entire defense improved dramatically from our first game to our second game and will be looking to continue to get better every week. We are looking forward to getting better as an overall team and showing off every game that we play the new Marina Viking Football culture of discipline and toughness that these young Marina Viking student-athletes are working hard to grow on a daily basis.”
Marina (1-1) plays at San Dimas while Fountain Valley (1-1) hosts Bellflower on Friday night.
