Segerstrom’s baseball team captured an 8-3 victory over Woodbridge in the Newport Elks Tournament on Saturday.
Nic Londeros-Sosa pitched six innings allowing two runs and no earned runs. He gave up three hits, struck out five and walked one.
Mateo Mendez pitched one inning and did not allow a hit or a run.
Offensively, Kristian Landeros-Sosa was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI and one stolen base to lead Segerstrom (2-3). Zander Bretza was for 2 for 3 with two RBI and Jacob Noriega was 1 for 1 with a double, walk and an RBI.
“It was an all-around good effort by Segerstrom today,” said Coach Erasmo Ramirez. “Nic Landeros-Sosa pitched six solid innings for the win. Mateo Mendez came in relief of Sabas Diaz in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and no outs. He came out of it with allowing only one run on a sacrifice fly.”
Woodbridge fell to 0-2.
Marina 8, Servite 4: Marina won its second game in a row at the Loara Tournament, defeating Servite 6-4 on Saturday.
Servite scored first with two runs in the first inning but David Mashburn opened the scoring with a two-run double and Lucas Iorgulescu finished with a two-out RBI single.
Servite responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth but Iorgulescu answered with a three-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Freshman left-hander Collin Miskelly pitched three scoreless innings to record the victory. Michael Turner pitched a scoreless seventh inning to notch his first save of the season.
Mashburn was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and two RBI and Iorgulescu was 2 for 3 with 3 with a double and four RBI.
Marina outhit Servite 8-5.
