Laguna Hills High School football star Mitch Leigber made it official Wednesday and signed his national letter of intent to play for Stanford University.
Leigber was joined by Laguna Hills Coach Mike Maceranka and teammates on the Hawks’ football team for a signing ceremony.
The 6-1, 200-pound Leigber, a star running back with the Hawks, said he will play in the defensive secondary for Stanford. Leigber said he also considered offers from Cal, Washington, UCLA, Arizona and San Diego State.
“He earned it! Mitch has worked hard in the classroom and taken AP courses to have a chance to be admitted,” Maceranka said. “He practices with his teammates, lifts with his teammates then works with a speed coach and position coach on his own time. You do not get to where he is on talent alone, it’s the hard work he put in above and beyond the average high school football player. We are proud of him.”
“It came down to a few schools for me,” Leigber said in a phone interview in July with OC Sports Zone. “It was a pretty tough choice but it just came down to that was the best fit for me. Their academics speak for themselves and I had a great relationship with the coaching staff and that was just the best fit for me and my family. I got to talk to David Shaw (Stanford head coach) a few times and he is a really good guy and really good coach so I’m excited to play for him.”
