Laguna Hills (2-1) led from wire to wire just holding off a late charge in the final minute to top University (1-2), 29-27, to win the South Division consolation championship of the North South Tournament at Mission Viejo.
Ryan Stefani led Laguna Hills with eight points and two 3-pointers while Lena Goodman and Meghan Rehmeier each scored six points.
Rae Li led University with seven points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals. Julia Holmes added four points, five rebounds and five blocked shots. The tournament concludes Saturday with the North and South Division teams competing against each other.
Also this week, University trailed 17-5 at the end of the first quarter, cut the deficit to one point at halftime and cruised to a 49-36 win over Mission Viejo in the consolation bracket of the South Division of the North South Tournament.
Senior guard Ai Miyano led the Trojans with 17 points, including five three-point buckets while Sophomore guard Selin Haytoglu added 10 points.
Senior forward Angelique Wright was the leading scorer for Mission Viejo with 10 points.
