JSerra baseball player Dominic Smaldino, a member of the Lions Trinity League championship team last season, has committed to play college baseball for Cal, according to a family member.
Smaldino, a junior, plays first base and pitched this summer for his travel team, Legacy Baseball Group. He committed to Cal to not only pitch but to be a two-way player which was one of the attractions in signing with the program.
He currently holds a 4.4 GPA
“He is a big piece to the puzzle here with JSerra baseball,” said JSerra head coach Brett Kay. “He is one of the talented juniors that we had on varsity last year to learn about the league, our culture and the leadership that we were going to want out of a player like Dom.
“He is a big, physical two-way type of player that has some thunder in the bat, and dynamic on the mound with a three pitch mix and a lot of downhill plane where the fastball can bear down on you. If we want a chance to repeat as Trinity League champions, we are going to need Dom to do what he needs to do, and that is play the game the right way with mentality of JSerra baseball and go compete with the best of them.”
