Bubba Filia (green jersey) took first while Dylan Tanner (blue jersey) took second in the home run hitting contest and were joined by Dick Owens (left) and Guy Lemmon of the Ryan Lemmon Foundation.
Irvine catcher Bubba Filia wrapped up his high school career Friday night by winning the home run hitting contest after the Ryan Lemmon Showcase game between the Pacific Coast League and the Sea View League at the Great Park Baseball Stadium.
The Sea View League defeated the Pacific Coast League 9-3.
Filia, who is headed to UC San Diego, finished ahead of Dylan Tanner of Trabuco Hills, who is off to play baseball at San Diego State.
David LeBioda of Aliso Niguel was third and Brad Hodges of University was fourth.
Filia and Tanner advanced into the final round and then Filia won with a 366 foot home run which put him over the top.
“That felt good, I was trying to get one out the whole round,” he said. “It’s a home run derby and I was trying to get into some balls and get them out. It was a little tough tonight, I think everybody had some trouble getting them out, but it was fun to compete out here and be with these guys.
“You come out in these exhibition games and you just want to have fun and be around these good players and play with the guys you’re normally playing against so it was a good time and I’m really glad to cap it off like this.”
