Kaitlyn Luu gets ready to take a shot this season for the Vaqueros.
Irvine High senior Kaitlyn Luu is nearing a milestone with the Vaqueros’ girls basketball team.
“Kaitlyn is 18 points away from the 1000-point mark for her career and she will be the third leading scorer in the history of Irvine girls basketball,” said Irvine Coach Sam Davis.
Davis said that Luu has been a four-year starter with the Vaqueros. She will be trying to get the milestone Wednesday when Irvine (11-13, 4-2) plays Beckman in a Pacific Coast League at 5:30 p.m. at Beckman. Irvine and Beckman are tied for second in the PCL.
“I have been blessed to be able to coach Kaitlyn for the last two seasons,” Davis said. “She is one of the leaders of our team and has done everything that I have asked her to do as a player.
“Kaitlyn has worked very hard each year to become the player she is today. I believe she is one of the top players in the area and I look forward to watching her continue to grow as a student-athlete at the next level.”
Luu scored 29 points and had six 3-pointers and 11 rebounds in a victory over Woodbridge this season.
