Irvine Pony Bronco 12-and-under all-stars captured three wins over the weekend in the double-elimination sectional tournament at Harvard Park to advance into the regionals beginning Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Champions Sports Complex vs. Cypress.
The 10-team tournament continues through Monday, July 8. The top three teams advance to the super regionals.
After dropping the opener, the Irvine squad defeated Santa Ana 18-7 and St. Hedwig 14-5 on Saturday, then defeated Los Alamitos 10-4 Sunday to advance into the championship game.
Placentia won the final 12-1 and also moves on to the regional.
Head coach of the Irvine team is John Trinh. Assistant coaches are Devin Benter, Brian Bittner, Dave Castle and Justin Clarkson.
Members of the team are Mason Trinh, Parker Clarkson, Austin Qi, Brodey Benter, David Granados, Aaron Paver, Jacob Lin, Barron Castle, Blaine Bittner, Calvin Rodriguez, Akash Basu, Ryusei Ishida and Fuminori Jikihara.
