IRVINE 2, BECKMAN 1: Irvine, which was no-hit by Beckman pitcher Zach Ireland, bounced back to even the Pacific Coast League series with a win Wednesday at Beckman.
Irvine (11-14-1, 9-11) is tied for fourth place with University going into Thursday’s game with Beckman at Irvine. The loss also knocked Beckman (19-6-1, 15-4-1) out of first place in the league.
“It was a very good game for us with our backs against the wall,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. ” We need to have the same fight and intensity tomorrow to have a shot.”
Irvine hosts Beckman in the finale of the series Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Evan Tamayo earned the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings. He allowed one hit, struck out four and allowed no runs. Drake Brito came on to earn the save, striking out two in one inning.
Josh Gutierrez was 1 for 2 with a triple, RBI and a walk; Smith Spivey was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and a walk and Sullivan Spivey was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
ESTANCIA 4, PACIFICA CHRSITIAN 3: The Eagles (23-4) earned a non-league victory Wednesday. Miles Moyer (7-2) earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) and four hits.
Vaughn McCrea earned his third save pitching one inning, allowing one hit.
Jake Humphries was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a double, Cole Lefebvre was 1 for 3 with two RBI, Sawyer Atkinson was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Riley Witte was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
TESORO 5, RIVERSIDE POLY 4 (8 innings): The Titans earned a non-league victory on the road Wednesday. Jackson Ferry was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Charlie Moraga was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Tanner Tobias 2 for 5 with a triple to lead the Titans.
