Irvine High’s baseball team is off to a 6-1 start and last week captured the championship of its division in the Newport Elks Tournament.
“We won our division of the Newport Elks Tournament by giving up a total of three runs throughout the five games of the tournament while scoring 36,” said Coach Gabriel Cota.
Yoni Bracha pitched 15 innings and posted a 3-0 record and did not allow an earned run. Patrick Hackworth was 8 for 18 with eight runs scored.
Irvine wrapped up the tourney title with a 4-1 victory over Century on Friday.
Ryan Barlow threw a complete game and did not allow an earned run. Elliot Jun was 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored.
Irvine opens Pacific Coast League play Friday night facing Woodbridge at 6 p.m. at Ryan Lemmon Stadium.
