IRVINE 14, PORTOLA 3: The Vaqueros (9-7) won their fourth Pacific Coast League game in a row with a 17-hit attack.
“We were able to jump out early and things clicked in a way we haven’t seen much,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “We hit five home runs, which allowed us to get everyone an opportunity to play. Our pitching was solid and we’re looking to build off of our performance today.”
Tate Zimmerman led the offense going 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBI, Patrick Hackworth was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI, Kade Zimmerman was 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBI, Bryan Wilhelm was 4 for 4 with three runs scored, Samuel Dimaculanan was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBI and Chandler Hazlett was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.
Sawyer Spivey pitched three innings, striking out one, Nicholas Johnson pitched two innings, striking out six and Chris Jeong pitched one inning, striking out two.
VILLA PARK 7, EL MODENA 0: Issac Ontiveros pitched a complete shutout, allowing two hits and striking out 12. Brady Watson was 4 for 4 with a double and five RBI, Aaron Perez was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, Gavin Grahovac was 1 for 3 with a home run and an RBI and Zach Brown was 2 for 3 for the Spartans (16-4).
OCEAN VIEW 7, SEGERSTROM 0: The Seahawks were led by Brandon Wood, who pitched a 2-hit shutout in the Golden West League game.
SAN JUAN HILLS 9, SAN CLEMENTE 5: Tanner Duke pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one run. He struck out six. Chris Landaas was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Stallions (12-8).
