JSerra’s baseball team, coached by Brett Kay, was off to a fast start when the season was cancelled. The Lions were 11-1 overall and won their first two Trinity League games, defeating Santa Margarita 7-3 and 4-3.
In the final CIF Division 1 poll, JSerra was second behind top-ranked Orange Lutheran.
“Really love this group of guys,” Kay said in an Email. “We have had some cohesive and successful groups before, but this group was just different.
“They taught us so much about the game and how to coach as well as the quality of young men that these boys want to be. They coined the term ‘family’ when we have been saying ‘team’ for over 13 years. They changed it. They wanted to be bigger and better than any team before them.
“They challenged each other daily. They loved each other daily. They promoted the program and school as walking billboards and they did it with honor, humility, and grace. Couldn’t be prouder to be their head coach.”

If you took pictures before the season, we would like to share team pictures of spring teams with our readers. These can be pictures of seniors or the entire team and we will run these throughout the coming months to salute the dedicated athletes of Orange County who have had their seasons cut short. Please email pictures, names of the players and some highlights to timburt@ocsportszone.com so we can share with our readers. Horizontal pictures similar in size to the one above work best. Please do not take pictures now for us.
