Garbers threw TD passes of 40, 18, 9, 53, 42 and 19 yards in the first half as the Sea Kings built a commanding 52-6 lead at the break.

After a sluggish first series Garbers, a junior, tossed two TD passes in the first quarter as CdM took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

“We came out and our O-line and receivers had a big game and that gave us momentum,” said Garbers.

The Sea Kings (2-1) dominated in the second quarter as they scored 38 points. CdM broke the game wide open by scoring on five consecutive series and added a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jack Elliott and a 42-yard field goal by Ethan Schroeder.

Garbers completed 13 of 24 passes for 277 yards and 6 TDs in the first half. He did not play in the second half. Four of Garbers TD passes went to junior wide receiver John Humphreys.

Humphreys caught a TD pass in the first quarter and three caught three more touchdowns passes in the second quarter from 53, 42 and 19 yards.

“Our defense got stops and this is a big win for us,” said Humphries, who had 6 catches for 155 yards.

Garbers also threw TD pass to Bradley Schlom and Mark Redman of 40 and 9 yards respectively in the first half.

Garbers has thrown for 720 yards and 9 touchdowns in three games thus far this season.

The Chargers (2-1) struggled to get on track as the Sea Kings defense, led by Ethan Jajonie, Carter Duss, Thomas Bouda and Tristen Troutman, recorded five sacks in the first half and kept heavy pressure on quarterback Austin Stover.

“We executed our assignments and I think we sent a message that nobody can mess with us,” said Duss, who had two sacks.

El Toro’s lone score of the game came on a 76-yard TD pass from Stover to Sam Whipple midway through the second quarter. Stover completed 10 for 137 yards and a TD.

“We put pressure on their backfield and we took advantage of matchups,” said Sea Kings coach Dan O’Shea. “We had a lot of young guys who are playing in their first varsity games and they proved themselves tonight. It was a good night and we got a tough one next week against Lakewood. You can bet they will be ready.”

The Sea Kings have defeated the Chargers in five of the last six seasons and will travel to Lakewood next week to take on the Lancers.
