Four Santa Ana High football players were among those players throughout the county honored at Monday’s National Football Foundation Orange County Scholar Athletes Banquet.
Students must have a 3.5 GPA and receive first team all-league recognition, according to a tweet from the foundation. The foundation noted there were 98 student athletes honored.
Santa Ana High football coach Charlie TeGantvoort said he was proud of his players.
“It is a true blessing to have such great student-athletes in the Santa Ana High School Saints football program,” he said Wednesday.
“We are very thankful as an entire community for the high level of hard work that these young men have shown on the field as well as in the classroom.
“All four of them carried over a 4.0 GPA during the entire football season, while still being able to perform well enough to earn such honors as MVP awards, all-league awards and All CIF awards. “
The coach said their futures appear bright.
“Due to this high level of academic and athletic success that these student-athletes have shown, all four have received several scholarships to continue their academic and athletic careers at several universities (Cal Berkeley, Redlands, La Verne, Stanford, Columbia and Whittier…),” he said.
