Vince Brown didn’t stay away from coaching very long.

Orange Lutheran High School baseball coach Eric Borba announced last week that Brown, who resigned as Foothilll head coach at the end of the last season, has been named the Lancers new pitching coach.

Brown said in an interview last July he wouldn’t rule out coaching again but didn’t expect to be coaching this season. However he indicated Friday he had a change of heart and he plans to coach in the coming season, scheduled to begin in March 2021.

“When I stepped down as head coach at Foothill last spring I knew two things; I needed the flexibility to attend and watch all three of my sons play for their schools, the Foothill community was great letting me do so the last couple years but with Zach playing for Villa Park and being in the same league and having the same schedule it wasn’t going to be fair to anyone remaining the head coach,” Brown told OC Sports Zone in an Email.

“I also knew I wasn’t going to be able to stay away from coaching very long, the Covid lockdown made that even more apparent to me.  I miss being on the field and working with the players and coaches for a common goal.  Orange Lutheran is a great fit for me, I’m excited about the challenges ahead and I appreciate Coach Borba being comfortable having be join his staff.”

Brown, who still teaches at Foothill, said he believes he should be also able to see his two sons play baseball.

“Since OLu plays and practices later than most high schools, I’m hoping their schedule will would allow me to attend afternoon games and watch both Zach play for Villa Park and Dillon for Concordia University,” Brown said.
