Estancia High athletic officials have begun the search for a new baseball coach after the resignation of Kevin Conlin, who accepted the job at Portola.
“We are currently in the process for hiring our varsity head baseball coach,” said Estancia Athletic Director Nate Goellrich.
“We are looking to interview either end of next week or the week of Aug. 19. There is a possibility of a teaching position in biology being attached to this position but overall we will be hiring the best candidate for the position.”
Goellrich said he met with Conlin on Monday, July 29 and believed that he met with the Estancia players a day later to inform them of his decision.
Conlin led the Eagles to the Orange Coast League title, its first since 2010. The Eagles were 17-12 overall and 10-5 in league play and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the CIF Division 5 playoffs, losing to top-seeded Riverside Poly 2-0.
“Kevin had a great two years here as our head coach,” Goellrich said. “Battling through a tough league this past season and winning the league championship is a great accomplishment. We are looking for a coach that will build on the success that has been established over the past few years here at Estancia. I understand Kevin’s decision to take the job at Portola and wish him the best in the future.”
