El Modena High School’s senior quarterback Xzavior Guess became the program’s all-time leader in career passing yards with another standout effort Friday in a 30-7 Delta League opening victory over Trabuco Hills.
Guess, who has committed to UC Davis, now has 4,961 yards in his career and is closing in on the career touchdown passes record too, according to El Modena Coach Matt Mitchell. Guess has 47 career passing touchdowns and the record is 50.
“Xzavior set the school record last week, he passed AJ Esperanza who was the CIF champion quarterback in 2017,” Mitchell said Tuesday.
In last week’s win, Guess completed 15 of 18 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown pass. His leading receivers were Connor Smith, Sam Jackett and Logan Honikel, according to Mitchell.
Guess also rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries with one TD.
“Xzavior means a lot to the program, he brings a lot of excitement on game night for sure,” Mitchell said. “He’s improved in many aspects within the program, his decision making, his strength in the weight room and his leadership skills. It’s been great to see him grow the last four years.”
El Modena (6-0, 1-0) plays at Western (3-3, 0-1) Thursday night.
