Senior forward Aiden Garnett of Edison was named to the all-tourney team.
Edison’s boys basketball team wrapped up a successful week at the So Cal Elite Gary Raya Classic defeating JSerra 62-57 Saturday evening in the third place game at Woodbridge.
Edison was led by Connor Collins who had 19 points, Kaden Headington who had 17 points and Aiden Garnett who scored 15 points and was named to the all-tournament team.
“I thought we played our best game of the year obviously,” said Edison Coach Rich Boyce. “That’s the way we played all summer and all fall and I thought if we keep doing that and get everybody back healthy I think we can keep doing more of that I hope.”
Edison jumped out to a 16-4 lead with 3:04 left in the first quarter and held on to the lead the rest of the way.
JSerra (12-2) cut the lead to 47-37 after three quarters and trimmed the margin to 53-47 with 5:18 left.
But Edison (9-5) was able to regroup and hold on for the victory.
“It always helps when you make shots,” said Boyce. “When you can’t make shots, your offense looks terrible and everything looks bad but we moved the ball and we didn’t force anything. I thought it was a great offensive game for us.”
DJ Rodman capped a great week for JSerra, scoring 27 points. Justin Williams added 11 points and Paxton Burzell scored 10 points for the Lions, who came into the tournament undefeated but lost their last two games.
