The Cypress High School girls basketball team opened its Crestview League schedule with an impressive 57-39 road victory over La Habra Friday night.
Junior guard Jocelyn Tani led the Centurions (10-7, 1-0) with 10 points.
“We had good ball movement, and we shared it throughout the game,” said Tani. “You have to give our bigs a lot of credit, they rebounded really well tonight. When La Habra rallied in the second half, we slowed the game down and got back into rhythm.”
Cypress Coach Nathaniel Rivera said he was pleased with his team’s performance.
“Our defense, played very well, especially in the second half,” said Rivera, whose team has won three of its last four games. “We made some mistakes on offense, but we continued to battle hard on defense.”
The Highlanders (5-13, 0-1) were led by Penelope Miles and Sarah Sanabria, who each scored eight points.
