Cypress boys basketball team remained alone at the top of the Empire League, defeating Valencia 81-53 Friday night at Valencia.
Jared Brown scored 19 points, Anthony Tello had 14 points and four 3-pointers and Clifton Patterson had 11 points to lead the Centurions (22-2, 6-0).
Valencia (12-12, 3-3) was led by Devin Jenkins with 13 points,
“We had to pay attention to detail tonight,” said Cypress Coach Derek Mitchell. “Dean (Coach Yoshimura) always has his team ready to play hard. We always struggle at Valencia.”
Cypress goes to Pacifica on Tuesday.

La Habra 67, Fullerton 28: The Freeway League-leading Highlanders (21-2, 6-0) were led by Cameron Dashiell, who scored 21 points and made three 3-pointers. He also had six steals. Ja’len Overstreet had 16 points and three 3-pointers.
Fullerton (10-14, 1-5) was led by Zachary Perez with nine points.
La Habra used a 24-0 third quarter run in the third quarter to break the game open.
“Stone Sinek is a heck of a player, so to hold him to single digits is a testament to our boys following the game plan defensively,” said La Habra Coach Aaron Riekenberg. “We were able to get out and run in the second and third quarters and open things up.
“We’ve had some greats runs to start the second half against Troy, Sonora and a 24-0 run tonight against Fullerton, so the boys are doing a great job of going out and executing our second half adjustments.”
Esperanza 42, Yorba Linda 36: The Aztecs (14-10) were led by Jason Francis with 12 points and Josh Noble and Tane Sedgewick with eight points each.
Yorba Linda (14-10) was led by Cory Knutson with 12 points and Omair Memon with eight points.
Trabuco Hills 52, Tesoro 49: Coach Sean Sullens Mustangs (17-5) won the game in overtime. Matt Jones had a steal and a three-point basket at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Matt DeAngelo led Tesoro (16-5) with 10 points.
