OC Sports Zone: Community First

Woodbridge, Crean Lutheran, Northwood, Cypress, Troy, Yorba Linda, Costa Mesa and Ocean View win

WOODBRIDGE 72, LAGUNA HILLS 52: The Warriors were led by Nygle Williams, who scored 19 points, Marly Jaisel who had 17 points and Eli Hill, who had nine points.

Woodbridge (10-3, 9-1) entered the game tied with Beckman for first place. Portola defeated Beckman 57-52 Thursday night. Woodbridge, coached by first-year Coach Steve Scoggin, can wrap up the outright Pacific Coast League title with a victory over University Friday. The game will start at 3:30 p.m. at Woodbridge and the Woodbridge seniors will be honored.

David Moon scored 28 points to lead Laguna Hills.

CREAN LUTHERAN 55, KENNEDY 24: The Saints, who already clinched the Empire League title, capped a perfect 10-0 run in the league with the win on Thursday on senior night at Crean Lutheran. Michael Birket scored 13 points, Ben Abate had 10 points and George Bovetas six points to lead the Saints (13-2 overall). Crean Lutheran is top seeded in the CIF 2A division.

CYPRESS 61, TUSTIN  55: Cypress (10-5, 8-2) wrapped up Empire League play with a victory at Tustin. Senior Christian Chai, in his final league game scored 20 points and had five steals, Kody Papke had 13 points and Jonas Hansen 10 points to lead the Centurions.

Tustin (9-9, 5-5) was led by Eli Nyeazi, who had 17 points and three 3-pointers and Ryan Stading, who had 13 points.
Cypress rallied after trailing by two points at half.

Cypress will be the No. 2 team out of the league in the CIF playoffs.

NORTHWOOD 65, UNIVERSITY 63: The TImberwolves (6-4, 6-4) won their final Pacific Coast League game when Nate Maloney scored the game-winning lay-up as time expired.

TROY 69, BUENA PARK 38: The Warriors won on senior night, led by Rohun Patel, who scored 18 points, Kyle Phan who had 14 points and Justin Trujillo who had eight points. Troy (8-11 overall) finished third in the Freeway League with a 6-4 record and will be awaiting the CIF playoff draw on Sunday.

YORBA LINDA 72, EL MODENA 49: The Mustangs (6-11, 4-2) were led by Jason Casacchia, who had 20 points and Ayaan Ismail, who had 12 points. Drew Rodriguez scored 13 points and Zeke Iribe 10 points to lead El Modena.

COSTA MESA 70, SADDLEBACK 57: The Mustangs were led by Aiden Spallone, who had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Costa Mesa (11-8, 8-2) finished second in the Orange Coast League.

OCEAN VIEW 51, SEGERSTROM 34: Coach Rusty Van Cleave’s Seahawks (12-6, 10-0) have won nine straight game heading into the CIF playoffs. Slater Miller led all scorers with 20 points.
