Mater Dei’s boys basketball team won again Friday night, defeating No. 6 Harvard Westlake 65-46 Friday night in pool play to earn a spot in next Friday night’s open division final against top-seeded Sierra Canyon.
The game will be at The Pyramid at Long Beach State at 8:30 p.m. Coach Gary McKnight’s team is 26-6 overall. Mater Dei, seeded No. 7 went 3-0 in its pool and all three wins came on the road.
Sierra Canyon wrapped up pool play 3-0 after defeating Etiwanda 73-62.
Mater Dei has been led by junior guard Devin Askew scored 43 points in Wednesday’s victory. Askew is averaging 16.6 points and 6.6 assists a game.
FOUNTAIN VALLEY VS. SHADOW HILLS: This 3A semifinal has been moved to Saturday at 7 p.m. at Shadow Hills. Fourth-seeded Fountain Valley kept its hopes alive for a first CIF title with a 61-50 victory over Yorba Linda on Tuesday. The winner of Saturday’s contest faces the winner of the Price vs. Adelanto game next Saturday in the finals.
