Mater Dei’s boys basketball team is one of eight teams selected for the CIF Open Division playoffs.
The Monarchs, coached by Gary McKnight, will open pool play on Friday, Feb. 14 when they play at No. 2 Centennial Corona.
Mater Dei will also play on Tuesday, Feb. 18 on the road against No. 3 Rancho Christian and wind up pool play on Friday, Feb. 21 at Harvard Westlaker.
Mater Dei (22-6) won the Trinity League title with a 9-1 record.
The tournament is grouped into two pools.
Pool A consists of No. 1 Sierra Canyon, No. 4 Etiwanda, No. 5 St. Anthony and No. 8 St. John Bosco.
Pool B includes No. 2 Centennial Corona, No. 3 Rancho Christian, No. 6 Harvard Westlake and No. 7 Mater Dei.
The winner of Pool A will meet the winner of Pool B in the championship game on Friday, Feb. 28 at The Pyramid at Long Beach State.
