CIF baseball second round playoff scores and highlights for Tuesday, May 9

DIVISION 1

Sierra Canyon 2, Cypress 1

Villa Park 2, Huntington Beach 1: Nate Pone had the game-winning walk-off win for VIlla Park and Zach Brown had outstanding pitching for the Spartans. Jake Starr also had a key hit to keep the inning going. Villa Park meets Orange Lutheran Friday at 7 p.m. at Hart Park in the quarterfinals. Orange Lutheran will be the home team.

Orange Lutheran 1, Harvard Westlake 0

Santa Margarita 7, LB Millikan 0: The Eagles move on to face La Mirada Friday at home in the quarterfinals after winning on the road Tuesday. Luke Lavin was 2 for 3 with two RBI and two RBI, Blake Wilson was 2 for 3 with two RBI and Luke Johnson 3 for 3 with two RBI to lead the Eagles. Sammy Cova got the win, striking out seven in six innings.

Crean Lutheran 6, Los Altos 2: Wyatt Nichol pitched a complete game and Jack O’Malley belted a home run to help the Saints (22-8) advance to the quarterfinals Friday vs. Burbank.

Chaparral 8, La Habra 7

Brea OIinda 1, Santa Barbara 0

Canyon 3, Northwood 0: Lefthander Jackson Chastain scattered eight hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings to lead Canyon (17-12) to a 3-0 second round home victory over Northwood (18-12) Tuesday.  Right-handed reliever JP Sova struck out three and recorded the final five outs for the save.

Canyon scored a single run in each of the first three innings on five hits and four walks off of USC-bound sophomore southpaw Paul Grossman.  Junior left-hander Casey Euper struck out five in three-plus nearly spotless relief innings.

Northwood left the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings.  Northwood Right fielder Kai Mo was the only player on either team to collect two hits. —Courtesy Daryl Bogard

Calvary Chapel 4, Windward 3

Peninsula 5, Katella 0

Liberty 2, Estancia 0: Estancia, the defending CIF Division 6 champion, dropped a second round game on the road. Andrew Mits (9-4) pitched a complete game allowing five hits and two earned runs and struck out nine. The Eagles were led offensively by Cole Lefebvre, who was 1 for 4 with a double; John Uchytil, who was 1 for 4 with a double; Mits, who was 1 for 3; and Andrew Coyotzi, who was 1 for 2 with two stolen bases; Sawyer Atkinson, who was 1 for 1; and Jake Humphries was 1 for 3. The Eagles had runners in scoring position in the last three innings, but could not score.
