No decision has yet been made about fall sports at Chapman University, a university athletic spokesman indicated Thursday.
About a week ago, Chapman President Daniele C. Struppa said university officials were working toward a “CU Safely Back” process for students in the fall with safety measures in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this week, the president addressed the athletic situation in a statement:
“There has been some confusion around the upcoming athletic season. Consistent with the overall institutional planning, there are no decisions made regarding fall sports. Chapman is part of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference so decisions will be made in consultation with the other members of SCIAC. As of today (May 12), all SCIAC member schools have agreed we do not have enough information to make a decision.”
Chapman’s football team is scheduled to open the season at home on Saturday, Sept. 5 against Pacific of Oregon, but that opener has not been confirmed.
