Corona del Mar players take the court during introductions Friday night.
Kings Krew, Corona del Mar’s student cheering section, was in full force for the Surf League boys basketball opener between Edison and Corona del Mar Friday night at CdM.
On Pack the Gym Night, the students filled two sections and provided plenty of vocal support for CdM. Edison guard Kaden Headington, who scored 33 points, described it as a “college atmosphere” when the lights were dimmed, the music was pumped up and the Sea King starters were introduced.
Edison tried to quiet the home fans, posting a 59-50 victory. (To see the game story and pictures, please click here).
It didn’t dampen the spirits of the Sea Kings fans however. The students also attend sporting events for other school teams.
The Kings Krew announced on Twitter Monday that the group is plannng a road trip Friday night when Corona del Mar takes on crosstown rival Newport Harbor and encouraged students to get to the 7 p.m. game early.
Newport Harbor enters the week 21-1 and 1-0 in the Surf League while CdM is 15-6 and 0-1.
