Corona del Mar’s trio of stellar football players, quarterback Ethan Garbers, wide receiver John Humphreys and tight end Mark Redman made it official and signed their national letters of intent Wednesday afternoon with Pac-12 schools.

Surrounded by family, friends and teammates, the players, who helped lead the Sea Kings to CIF Division 3 and 1A state titles, signed their letters then posed with teammates for pictures.

Garbers, the record-setting quarterback, signed with Washington. Humphreys, who also set numerous CIF and county records, signed with Stanford and Redman signed with Washington.

There were no comments by either Coach Dan O’Shea or the players. The players spent the time sharing the exciting event with their friends while talking to reporters.

O’Shea was asked his reaction to the signing.

“Joy for once were young boys and seeing them grow into young men and continue onto the journey of being grown-ups,” O’Shea said in an interview. “This is an emotional stage for them I’m sure. It’s kind of like leaving a job that you love.

“You’re leaving your high school enviroinment. I’m sure it’s scary making the jump. It’s joyful and exciting but it’s also emotional. These boys, I’m sure have dreamed about it for years and years and to be able to get to this stage and they’re so well deserved and they are such great representatives of this school and this football community and you couldn’t have three neater kids to represent this football program signing their letters of intent and that’s quite a feather in their cap and I couldn’t be more happy for them and their families.

“They’re incredibily dedicated families and have been a big part of this program for all these years.”
