Corona del Mar’s baseball team continued its solid start defeating Paramount 7-0 in the Foothill Division of the Newport Elks Tournament Wednesday.
Jarrett Thompson (1-0) threw five innings giving up two hits and striking out four to record the win, said CdM Coach Kevin McCaffrey.
Kieran Sidebotham led the way for the Sea Kings on offense going 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Reece Berger was 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI, and a run scored and Luc Stuka was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
CdM (4-0-1) will close out the tournament on Friday against an opponent to be determined, McCaffrey said.

Newport Harbor 10, Capistrano Valley Christian 4: The Sailors (3-0) were led by John Olmstead (1 for 4, home run, three RBI), Mac Briggs (1-for-3, home run, two RBI), Braham Duncan (3-for-4, two runs scored), Clay Liollos (3 for 4, one run scored) and Kyle Binford (2-for-3). Cameron Mahaffy (2-0) got the victory striking out nine.
Irvine 9, El Rancho 1: Leonard Memon threw a complete game allowing five hits and had two strikeouts, throwing 70 pitches for Irvine (4-1), which continued its solid start in the Newport Elks Tournament.
Grant Lockwood was 2-for-4 for the Vaqueros.
“It was a great game where almost everyone was involved and got an at bat,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota.
Cerritos 5, Northwood 3: Cerritos pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Timberwolves.
Nogales 14, Portola 10: Nogales scored six runs in the top of the seventh to hand the Bulldogs (3-1) their first loss of the season. Paul Murrow had four RBI for Portola in the Newport Elks Tournament game at Portola.
