Corona del Mar’s baseball team defeated Laguna Beach 3-2 in nine innings Friday in a Surf League game at CdM.
Tom Wilcox returned from injury for the Sea Kings and threw seven innings allowing three hits and striking out six, according to CdM Coach Kevin McCaffrey.
Tanner Ivey came in to throw two scoreless innings to get the victory.
Laguna Beach put runners on first and second in the top of the ninth inning.
But Ivey caught a bunt for the first out and Laguna Beach lined into a double play to end the threat.
Then in the bottom of the ninth, Reece Berger was hit by a pitch to get on. Kieran Sidebotham put down a perfect bunt for a hit and Nolan Dunn placed a sacrifice bunt down.
Laguna Beach tried for the force at third and the ball was thrown away allowing Berger to come in with the winning run.
CDM is 9-4-1 overall and 1-2 in league while Laguna Beach is 8-9 and 1-2.
CDM will play a doubleheader at University Saturday. The first game starts at 11 a.m. (To see how the Sea Kings did, please click here)
