Bolsa Grande High School’s football team, behind a record-setting six touchdown effort of senior all-purpose player David Nguyen, defeated Loara 47-28 Thursday night in the Garden Grove League opener at Bolsa Grande.
“David Nguyen’s six touchdowns is a school record,” said Bolsa Grande Coach Michael Acosta on Friday. “He had 21 rushes for 113 yards with five TDs, one receiving TD and one sack on defense.”
Nguyen scored on TD runs of 1 and 7 yards in the first quarter, he had a 7-yard TD in the second quarter and hauled in a 16-yard TD pass from quarterback Ethan Nguyen in the second quarter. He capped his big night with TD runs of 8 and 1 yards in the third quarter, putting the Matadors ahead 40-14 going into the final stanza.
It was a significant victory for Bolsa Grande (4-2, 1-0).
“I have been with program about seven years and it’s the first time we have beaten Loara in league,” Acosta said.
Other key offensive contributions came from Nguyen, who completed 12 of 15 passes for 251 yards and one touchdown and wide receiver Eddie Zarate, who had five catches for 120 yards.
