BECKMAN 8, PORTOLA 6: Beckman High’s baseball team overcame a late three-run deficit to defeat Portola in a Pacific Coast League game at Portola Friday afternoon.
Paul Murrow was 3 for 4 with two home runs, five RBI and the go-ahead single for the Patriots with two strikes and two outs in the top of the seventh inning, according to Beckman Coach Kevin Lavalle.
Zach Ireland (4-0) threw 6 2/3 innings and struck out seven for Beckman.
“Portola outplayed us in every facet of the game besides the final score,” said Lavalle. “Paul obviously had a big day, and I give my guys credit for coming back. It was a huge win that basically kept our hope alive.”
Beckman (12-5) remains in third place in the PCL but kept its hopes alive for a league title with two games later in the month against league-leading Woodbridge. The Patriots were coming off a 4-0 loss to University on Tuesday.
VILLA PARK 8, EL MODENA 2: Benny Vogel got the win for the Spartans (17-4) throwing a complete game. Zach Brown was 2 for 3 with four RBI, Brandon Luu was 2 for 3 with two RBI and Aaron Perez was 3 for 4 with an RBI.
TRABUCO HILLS 7, ALISO NIGUEL 4: The Mustangs (15-4, 5-1) battled back in the sixth inning to record the victory. Nick Perez and Drew Barrett led the offensive attack. Barrett was 4 for 5 with two RBI, Perez was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBI and Bryan Ramirez was 1 for 2.
Colin McDonald pitched the first 3 2/3 innings and Jordan Brown finished up, allowing four hits and one earned run.
