Big day of sports with basketball tourneys and football bowl game

It’s a big day of sports in Orange County on Saturday with several high school boys basketball tournaments wrapping up and a state regional football bowl game between Northwood and Righetti at Irvine Stadium.

Northwood, which won the CIF Division 11 title last week, the first in school history, hosts Righetti (5-8) at 6 p.m. Northwood enters with a 9-5 record. The winner moves on to the state final next Saturday in Northern California.

It’s the final state bowl game of the weekend. Loara, Orange Lutheran and Newport Harbor lost in bowl games Friday night.

Basketball tournaments include the Loara Tournament, where Servite will face Dana Hills at 5:30 p.m. at Loara. Northwood meets Newport Harbor in the third place game at 4 p.m.

In Irvine, the Mariko Memorial Classic wraps up with a full day of games at Portola. The last game features San Clemente and Edison at 7:30 p.m. Games continue at noon.

In addition, Santa Ana College women’s basketball team is hosting a tournament. The Dons play Mira Costa at 4 p.m.
