Beckman High School’s baseball team made it two in a row over Irvine with a 5-2 victory over the Vaqueros in a make-up game Thursday at Beckman.
The Pacific Coast League leading Patriots scored five runs in the first inning and went on to top the the Vaqueros (5-12, 5-7). It was the sixth league win in a row for Beckman (13-2, 11-1).
Beckman also defeated Irvine on Wednesday, 3-2, at Irvine.
Josh Miler and Marshall Minor had singles in the first inning for Beckman on Thursday.
“Both pitchers AJ Roettger and Joon Lee for Irvine pitched really well, both of them throwing complete games,” said Beckman Coach Kevin Lavalle.
Roettger improved his record to 6-0. He got the save on Wednesday.
“It was another tight game,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “We didn’t show up ready to play and give up five (runs) on a hit by pitch, two walks and two errors.
“After that it was a great game from both sides. We battled, but couldn’t get over the hole we dug. Joon Lee threw a great game.”
In six innings, Lee allowed two earned runs and struck out four.
