Six of the seven Pacific Coast League baseball teams were in action Saturday at the Great Park Stadium. Portola had a bye.
BECKMAN 13, UNIVERSITY 5: The Patriots (9-2, 7-1) remained atop the Pacific Coast League standings with a victory in the 4 p.m. game. Ashton Kanegae got the victory, pitching three innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.
Marcus Zeigler was 2 for 2 with three RBI, Maddex Soto was 2 for with a double, triple and three RBI, Nick Molina was 1 for 2 with a triple and Carter Speights was 2 for 3 with two singles.
University scored four of its runs in the top of the seventh.
NORTHWOOD 8, LAGUNA HILLS 6: The Timberwolves (4-8, 4-4) rallied from a 6-0 deficit after two innings in the first game of the tripleheader at 12:30 p.m.
Northwood scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth, with an insurance run in the seventh, according to Coach Doug Euper.
Jon Cilderman came on in the second inning in relief and went the final six innings to pick up the win. Cilderman gave up no runs on three hits with six strikeouts.
Offensively the Timberwolves were led by freshman Joseph Harper who went 3 for 3 with three RBI and a stolen base. Eugene Miyata went 2 for 2, with two walks, and scored three runs. Ryan Yin went 1 for 2 with a double and three RBI.
WOODBRIDGE 13, IRVINE 9: In a wild back and forth game, Woodbridge scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning in the final contest of the day, snapping Irvine’s four-game winning streak. Woodbridge remains in second place behind league-leading Beckman.
Irvine (4-9, 4-4) scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth and had a two-run home run by Taylor Skelley but Woodbridge (9-5, 6-2) came back with eight runs in the top of the seventh, which included a three run home run by Dylan Blakey. Blakey also came on in relief in the sixth inning to win the game.
Light rain fell for the final three innings.
