Portola defeats Woodbridge as Warrior coach sits out PCL game; Crean Lutheran also wins

PORTOLA 55, WOODBRIDGE 41: Allyson Tabayoyong scored 26 points, Moka Saiki had 12 points and Kira Watanabe nine points to lead Portola. The Bulldogs (7-0, 5-0) are atop the Pacific Coast League standings.

Woodbridge (4-1, 3-1) was led by Hana Watanabe, who scored 13 points. Ashley Cheng scored 11 points and Teagan Burrows 10 points.

Woodbridge Head Coach Keith Clarkson did not coach or attend the game. Clarkson said Friday the Woodbridge administration has asked him to take a two-week quarantine because a Woodbridge junior varsity player tested positive for COVID-19.

The quarantine is also in affect for the JV team, which will cancel its games during the quarantine, but does not affect the varsity.

“Since I ran the JV practice this past Monday, our administration decided to put me in a 14-day quarantine along with the JV girls,” Clarkson said.

Woodbridge assistant coach Emma Shimizu coached the Warriors Friday. Woodbridge also had a varsity league game postponed on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution. Woodbridge Athletic director Rick Gibson said officials are working on rescheduling that game.

The quarantine will run through next Friday, Clarkson said.

CREAN LUTHERAN 71, PACIFICA 22: The Saints evened their league record at 1-1 with the win. Taylor Feldman led the way with 29 points, seven steals, three rebounds and four assists.

Feldman, a junior, reached the 1,550 career-point mark last week, a school record, for the Saints, said co-head coach Bianca Ziemann.

Emily Reed had 13 points and made three 3-point field goals. Maddie Snyder had eight points, seven steals, two assists and two rebounds and Aynsley Bryan had seven points.
