Servite High School officials said Tuesday that Anthony Davis has been named the new head basketball coach at the school.

Coach Davis replaces John Morris, who resigned after the season.

“We are extremely excited about this hire and have the utmost confidence in Coach Davis and his ability to lead our basketball program moving forward,” said Athletic Director Alan Clinton. “Tony is a proven winner with an extensive resume of success and commitment to helping his players become the best versions of themselves. We strongly believe that he will make a positive impact in mentoring our student-athletes both on and off the court and shares in Servite’s mission of forming faith-filled leaders.”

Davis has more than 15 years of high school coaching experience and led his teams to two
CIF titles and 12 league championships at Mayfair High School. Since taking over the program in 2007, Davis has been named CIF Coach of the Year twice while accumulating more than 300 victories including eight 20-win seasons with a 72 percent win percentage, according to Servite officials.

Davis also led his teams to the second round of the playoffs or further 13 times with six appearances in the quarterfinals and three in the finals. His squads also made four state appearances and advanced to the semifinals twice.

“I am truly excited to join the Servite community and help these young men grow into leaders on and off the court,” Davis said. “I believe in creating a program centered around family, accountability and togetherness where members become part of something larger themselves while learning important life lessons and developing their God-given talents.

“I look forward to instilling those pillars as we build together at Servite.”

Davis has mentored more than 30 players who have moved on to play at four-year universities including 15 at the NCAA Division 1 level, Servite officials added. He also coached first round NBA Draft pick and current Houston Rocket, Josh Christopher, as well as four McDonald’s All-American Game nominees, two Maxpreps All-Americans, three John R. Wooden Award recipients and two Naismith All-Americans.

“Servite High School would like to welcome Coach Davis, his wife Rosalyn and daughter Naomi, to the Friar family,” Servite officials said.
