Pacifica Christian High School officials announced on Wednesday the hiring of Amy Yiannikouros as the new director of girls volleyball.
Yiannikouros comes to Pacifica Christian with years of coaching and playing experience at the club, high school and collegiate levels. She has spent time coaching at Aliso Niguel High School and Dana Hills and has coached club volleyball with the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.
Most recently, she was the head varsity coach at Saddleback Valley Christian School in San Juan Capistrano. She took over a program that finished 11-13 during the 2018 season and guided the squad to a 2019 San Joaquin League title, a CIF Division 4 semifinal appearance, a CIF state tournament appearance and an overall record of 20-12.
Yiannikouros takes over a program that has been led by former head coach Kim Adams since 2017. Â
“I want to thank Coach Adams for her work and love for her student-athletes these past three years. She has done great things for Triton Volleyball and we wish her the best in her next endeavors and are excited to see what the Lord has in store for her,” said Brandon Gonzalez, director of athletics and student life.
The program has been around since the school’s inception in 2015 and has enjoyed considerable success. This past school year, the Tritons had their first college-bound athlete in senior setter Allyson Scharrer, who will be continuing at Vanguard University with the beach volleyball program, Gonzalez said.
“I am excited and honored to be a part of the growing girls volleyball program at Pacifica Christian High School,” Yiannikouros said. “I am thrilled and ready to meet this new group of Lady Tritons and their families. My hope for this season, beyond my normal competitive drive for winning, is that our program will be a big fun family, supportive and loving while celebrating the joy of life each day together.”
The program has made three straight appearances in the CIF playoffs but the new coach would like to help lead the team to its first league title.
“If I can play a role in helping these young ladies grab their first league title in school history, or ultimately a CIF championship, that would be incredible,” Yiannikouros said. “We will have to work hard and come together as a team and program while nurturing our love for the sport and respect for one another.”Â
“I am extremely excited for Coach Amy and what she will bring to the Girls Volleyball Program,” Gonzalez added. “Coach Amy brings a wealth of knowledge for the game of volleyball, the experience of running year-round high-level programs, and a passion for investing in the lives of her players.”
Yiannikouros has her Bachelor’s Degree in history from UCLA and has been married to her husband Petros for 13 years with two children.
