Segerstrom will host Marina next Friday night for the league title.
“We are excited to be able to play for league championship especially under the circumstances with a short in season,” Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa said Saturday.
“Both teams I’m sure it will be ready for the game. Last night was a big win for us. We had a number of people step up and make plays throughout the game on both sides of the ball.
‘Offensively Damian Hernandez made several big runs on first down or to get a first down. Nathan Tagaloa had two touchdowns to lead the scoring with Frankie Gonzalez also having two touchdowns.
“Defensively Israel Escobedo had an interception for us. MJ Leuma and the rest of the defense of line played well. It was just an all-around team effort. I’m very excited and proud of the way the boys showed their boys and true character as the game went into the overtime. My hats off to Grove they battled all night and showed a true warrior spirit all the way down to the final play.”
Segerstrom will now begin to focus on Marina.
“We look to do what we’ve done all year and that is compete every snap,” Tagaloa said. “Our boys have shown true heart throughout the shortened season and have overcome a lot. We’re just thankful to be in this situation and excited to play next week for league title.”
