It will be another busy Saturday as Orange County high school cross country teams take part in meets.
Cross country is the only sport currently allowed by the California Department of Public Health and the CIF following safety protocols.
Mater Dei’s girls and boys teams will run in a Trinity League meet at JSerra.
“We are extremely excited to start our first athletic event of the year! We are hoping others follow soon,” said Mater Dei Athletic Director Amanda Waters. “We are not having fans, but will be livestreaming the event on the cross country Twitter page.”
The meet begins at 2 p.m. with the girls junior varsity race followed by the boys junior varsity race at 2:45 p.m., the girls varsity race at 3:30 p.m. and the boys varsity race at 4 p.m.
ALSO SATURDAY:
—The second Pacific Coast League meet will be held at Laguna Hills. The meet will begin with competition between Laguna Hills and Beckman at 8 a.m.
Northwood will face Woodbridge at 10 a.m. and University will meet Irvine at 1 p.m., according to Beckman Athletic Director Steve Fischel. Portola will have a bye this week.
Beckman hosted last week’s opening league meet. The meets also include races in junior varsity and frosh-soph levels.
The meets are being held without fans.
—-Huntington Beach and Edison will hold Sunset League meets Saturday at 9 a.m. at Edison.
—Crean Lutheran and Laguna Beach cross country teams will have a meet on Saturday at Crean Lutheran beginning at 3 p.m. Crean Lutheran held a multi-team event last Saturday.
