Mater Dei High School baseball coach Richard Mercado was part of a group of coaches, teachers and administrators who made visits to athletes last week while practicing social distancing guidelines.

“Mater Dei wanted to surprise the seniors with 2020 graduation signs,” Mercado told OC Sports Zone in an Email Monday. “Administrators, teachers and coaches volunteered to throw their mask and gloves on and trek around Southern California to bring a smile to these wonderful seniors.
“I was able to visit some of our baseball players and spend some quality time catching up. I think it meant a lot to the students. Everyone is hurting right now but we were trying to do what we can to make the best out of this situation.”
