Portola’s girls basketball team opened the CIF 4A playoffs defeating Arroyo of El Monte 40-24 Thursday night in El Monte.
The Bulldogs (18-8) were led by Allyson Tabayoyong with 20 points and Donia Maymoun with seven points.
Crean Lutheran 67, Knight 43: The Saints, the number two team from the Empire League, advance into the second round of the 3AA playoffs on Saturday.
Crean Lutheran was led by Haille Daniel, who had 20 points and 19 rebounds; Taylor Feldman, who had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals; Shannon O’Malley who had 20 points and made six 3-point field goals.
“Coach Rachael and I are very proud of our girls tonight,” said Coach Bianca Ziemann. “We had to make a few adjustments defensively and offensively and the team as a whole executed well. We are very excited for the next upcoming game vs. a very competitive Covina High School.”
The game will be Saturday at Covina.
