Woodbridge and Fountain Valley football teams are out to capture their first victory of the young season when the squads meet Thursday night at 7 at Huntington Beach High School.
Both teams have started out 0-2. Fountain Valley defeated Woodbridge 35-20 last year at University.
Fountain Valley is coming off a 19-14 loss to North Torrance last week.
It will be the Barons’ first home game.
“Some keys for us are to exhibit better ball security (four turnovers last week), effectively run the ball on offense and play assignment sound football on defense,” said Fountain Valley’s first year Coach Chris Anderson.
The Barons’ top players on offense include running back Tanner Ciok and wide receiver Blake Anderson.
The defense is led by linebacker Jerry Ngo and defensive back Justin Curti.
Woodbridge is coming off a 31-10 loss to El Modena last week at University.
Coach Rick Gibson noted before the season that all of his starters on offense are new and he’s hoping his squad can continue to make progress this week.
“I thought our game with El Modena was competitive but need to clean up a great deal of execution,” Gibson said. “Our philosophy every year is to get better each week.
“We’re looking forward to getting better. Our players have worked very hard this week I applaud their effort especially with the heat. Our goal is to be at our best once league starts.”
