Rancho Alamitos pitcher throws perfect game; Friday’s OC baseball highlights, scores

RANCHO ALAMITOS 10, SADDLEBACK 0: Rancho Alamitos pitcher Henry Garcia pitched a perfect game, striking out 14 to lead the Vaqueros to a 10-0 Grove League victory over Saddleback Friday.

Garcia also went 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Aidan Martinez was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Leo Monroy was 2 for 3 and Davian Sanchez 1 for 2 with two runs scored and two RBI for Rancho Alamitos (10-9, 6-4) in league.

The Vaqueros are in third place in the Grove League. Saddleback is 3-17 overall and 1-9 in league.

Garcia, a senior, pitched a no-hitter in April against Anaheim.

CRESTVIEW LEAGUE

CYPRESS 8, FOOTHILL 5: Coach John Weber’s Centurions (19-5, 9-1) wrapped up a share of the league title Friday at Foothill. Tate Belfanti pitched five innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out eight to earn the win.

Ben Martinez was 2 for 2 with a run scored, four RBI and a stolen base, Jake De Laquil was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and a stolen base, Landon Anderson was 1 for 2 with two runs scored, Landon Smith was 1 for 2 with two runs scored, Tyler Velarde was 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI and Dylan Keliiholokai was 1 for 4 with a run scored.

Foothill (15-9, 3-5) was led by Presley Gaborno who was 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored an RBI; Patrick Petrossi, who was 2 for 4 with a double, run scored and an RBI; Brayden Biachi, who was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Peter Thatcher who was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

FREEWAY LEAGUE

PACIFICA 6, BREA OLINDA 4: The Mariners (14-9, 5-3) were led by Jack Waeger who was 2 for 4 with a home run, double and three RBI; Brody Jakel who was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored; Ryan Greenberg, who was 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored and Karson Mau’u who was 1 for 4 with two RBI.

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

WOODBRIDGE 14, PORTOLA 1: Woodbridge (14-10, 10-2) inched closer to winning the Pacific Coast League title with a win Friday night at Ryan Lemmon Stadium. Laguna Beach and Irvine, both 9-3, are tied for second place with one week left in league play.

Woodbridge outhit Portola 12-3. JJ Metcalf went 2 for 3 with three RBI, Vaughn Tase was 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Alex Johnson was 1 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Vincent DeMarco, Henry Uhrik and Kyle Underwood also had RBI.

Underwood, the first of four Woodbridge pitchers, pitched the first five innings allowing three hits and no runs and striking out seven.

Jack Wang was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Portola (6-11, 5-7).

Woodbridge hosts Sage Hill Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Ryan Lemmon Stadium.

SUNSET LEAGUE

CORONA DEL MAR 11, MARINA 2: The Sea Kings completed a series sweep of the Vikings with a win on Friday. Stevie Jones earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out nine in six hits. JJ Haley went 3 for 4 with a double and a home run for CdM.

CdM (13-11, 6-9) moved into a four-way tie for third place with the win.

GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE

TUSTIN 5, KENNEDY 0: The Tillers (15-9, 7-2) were led by Isaac Maldonado, who pitched a complete game shutout, striking out six and allowing five hit. Nyte Teeter, who is normally the Tustin catcher, went 2 for 3 with a walk and also played shortstop for the Tillers.

SAN JOAQUIN LEAGUE

PACIFICA CHRISTIAN 9, WESTERN CHRISTIAN 2: The league-leading Tritons (15-5-1, 6-1) were led by Blake Hayes, who was 3 for 3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a triple; Scout Escobedo, who was 2 for 5 with two RBI and a double; Johnny Coopman, who was 2 for 4 with three RBI and Luke Miller, who was 1 for 4 with two RBI.

Jon Stone got the win with nine strikeouts in six innings.

SEA VIEW LEAGUE

MISSION VIEJO 4, EL TORO 0: The Mission Viejo Diablos went into game three of Friday’s Sea View League baseball series against the El Toro Chargers looking to finish off a series sweep. The Diablos did exactly that, winning game three in dominating fashion behind a stellar pitching performance from starting pitcher Aiden Chapuis.

Chapuis, a senior, was almost untouchable in his six complete innings on Friday. Chapuis had nine strikeouts and gave up only one hit to El Toro sophomore Gavin Broesamle in the third inning. Diablo senior Andrew Lambert relieved Chapuis in the bottom of the seventh inning and closed the game out, retiring the side in order after striking out the leadoff hitter.

Chapuis, also led the way offensively for the Diablos (15-8, 5-3) going 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI single in the fifth inning that drove in one of Mission Viejo’s four runs. Mission Viejo leadoff hitter Robert Nestor also gave the Diablos a spark from the plate, getting on base three times with a walk and two singles while scoring a run and Jacob Ramirez was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Mission Viejo is now in first place in the Sea View League after completing the series sweep against El Toro (11-12-1, 5-7) which dropped into fourth place.
