Orange County high school boys basketball highlights for Wednesday, Nov. 19

LUIS MACIAS TOURNAMENT

IRVINE 60, SANTIAGO 36: The Vaqueros evened their record at the tournament at Santa Ana High School with a win on Wednesday night. Eleven players scored for Irvine (1-1). Thiago Ida had 12 points, Holden Stearns (younger brother of former Irvine standout Cooper Stearns) and Chase Brito nine points each and Francisco Martinez seven points. Irvine continues pool play Friday at 4:35 p.m. vs. San Juan Hills.

CHINO HILLS 81, EL DORADO 67: Noah Barker scored 26 points to lead Coach Ryan Mounce’s Golden Hawks. Jack Boettner had 17 points and a 3-pointer for El Dorado which meets San Clemente Thursday at 5:55 p.m. at Santa Ana.

SAN JUAN HILLS 61, COSTA MESA 21: Rocco Jensen led the Stallions (1-1) with 16 points. Cameron Goltara, Oliver Sandor and Kamran Aziz each had eight points for San Juan Hills, which faces Irvine Friday at 4:35 p.m. Costa Mesa is 0-2.

RUMBLE ON THE HILL

WOODBRIDGE 65, VILLA PARK 56: Woodbridge (2-1) was led by Jaiden Sabino who had 36 points and seven 3-pointers. Garrett DiCostanzo had nine points and Jahan Aldoo eight points for the Warriors.

Villa Park (1-2) was led by Jorden Salem with 18 points, three rebolunds and two blocks and Nate Chung with 13 poiints and six rebounds.

CLAREMONT 44, UNIVERSITY 39: Senior Wani Limbe hit a three-pointer to break a tie with a minute to play to guide Claremont past Uni in consolation play in the Rumble on the Hill Tournament at Fullerton High School. University trailed by nine points in the third quarter, 35-23, and came back to take the lead with under three minutes left in the game.

Limbe finished with 14 points and a perfect four-for-four from three point land to lead Claremont (1-2). Junior swingman Aaron Gopo added 10 points.

Junior forward Abdallah Shami had a double-double for University with 12 points and 14 rebounds (six offensive) to go along with three steals.

Sophomore center Lucas Haun contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore point guard Connor Cao added nine points, five rebounds and three assists. University (0-3) will play Maywood Academy in the same tournament at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Fullerton High School.

SERVITE 62, TRABUCO HILLS 45: The Friars (2-1) were led by Marcus Gragg Buchanan, who scored 15 points. Tariq Johnson had 14 points, Saigier Smith 12 points and Jake Schutt 11 points.

JSERRA 69, LEUZINGER 52: Jaden Bailes scored 22 points, Earl Bryson had 11 points, Godschoice Eboigbodin had 10 points to lead the Lions (3-0).

NON-LEAGUE

REDONDO UNION 65, CREAN LUTHERAN 59: The Saints (1-1) led by 10 points at halftime but could not hold onto the lead, according to Coach Austin Loeb. Hunter Caplan scored 22 points and Jacob Majok 18 points to lead the Saints in the road game.

“Proud of the way they battled,” Loeb said. “Caden (Jones) withstood their pressure and press with just one week back to hoops after football season.”

Jones was the quarterback on the Crean Lutheran football team.

Crean Lutheran opened the season Monday with an 85-43 victory over Calvary Baptist.

CYPRESS 70, CERRITOS 46: Gavin Kroll led Cypress with 13 points, making 3 of 3 field goal attempts. He also had eight rebounds. Ryan Gov added 10 points and Brennen DeLaz Cruz eight points for the Centurions in their season opener.

“Cypress played well as a team in their first game vs Cerritos,” said Coach Derek Mitchell.

Cypress hosts defending CIF champion Los Alamitos Friday night.
