Woodbridge High School’s football team celebrated its first win of the season Thursday night defeating Katella 35-0 in an Omicron League game at Glover Stadium.

It was the first victory for new Coach Connor McBride.

The Warriors (1-7, 1-2) have a chance at finishing third in the league and earning an automatic CIF playoff berth. They finish with league games against University next Friday and Buena Park on Thursday, Oct. 30 at University.

“Obviously, the win means a lot to me individually being the first of my career,” McBride said late Thursday. “However, it means a lot more for my team. We have had a long start to our season and have played some pretty hard teams.

“Getting that first win was huge for my guys to finally see their hard work pay off. We are fired up for the next two weeks and to make a push for the post season. Proud of my guys.”

Freshman quarterback Waylan Stone led Woodbridge Thursday, throwing three touchdown passes and rushing for one touchdown, according to McBride. In his best game as a Warrior, Stone completed 17 of 22 passes for 280 yards.

Wide receiver Jalen Webb had two touchdown receptions and wide receiver Elijah Morris had a TD reception, McBride added. Webb had four catches for 97 yards and Morris seven receptions for 96 yards.

The Warriors other quarterback, sophomore Joey Coykendall had a late rushing TD for Woodbridge.
