Ocean View’s football team is gearing up for a key Sigma League game Friday night at home vs. undefeated Calvary Chapel.

Ocean View (6-1 overall) and Calvary Chapel (7-0) are tied for first place in the league with 2-0 records.

“We’re preparing for another tough league matchup against an undefeated Calvary Chapel team,” Ocean View Coach Daniel Hernandez said Monday. “At 7-0, they’ve shown consistency and execution all season. Their coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for keeping their team focused and ready each week. We know it’ll be a great challenge and we’re looking forward to competing.”

Ocean View notched its second league victory Friday, defeating Santa Ana Valley 28-0.

“We competed hard Friday night against a tough Santa Ana Valley team,” Hernandez said. “Coach Alfredo Macias and his staff do an excellent job preparing their players to play physical, disciplined football for all four quarters. Anytime you face a league opponent, you know you’ll be tested.”

Ocean View rushed for 240 yards led by running backs Trevor Vaivao-Luapo, who had seven carries for 48 yards and a touchdown; Jodey Sok, who added 74 yards on eight carries; Dylan Morales, who had 28 yards on three carries, and Dereon Oliney, who had 92 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

“Quarterback Dean Northam spread the ball around, completing passes to seven different receivers for 103 yards,” Hernandez said. “On defense, Trevor Vaivao-Luapo also made a big impact, forcing and recovering a fumble, which he returned 50 yards for a touchdown.”
