The effort by University High School football player Jake Rabold in the Trojans 23-7 non-league victory over Los Amigos last week brought plenty of praise from Trojans head coach Vince Mesa.
“Jake had the best single person overall performance I have ever seen,” Mesa said this week. “He for sure tied or broke a school record. Excited to see what he does this season.”
Rabold, a senior, appears to have earned a spot in the school record book.
On his birthday, Rabold accounted for all of the Trojans’ points with three field goals, two touchdown receptions and two extra points. He also had an interception and punted twice for a total of 73 yards, had five kickoffs for 280 yards and made three tackles.
The three field goals made by Rabold in one game ties the record for most in one game for a Uni kicker since MaxPreps began collecting stats, according to team statistician Daryl Bogard, who also contributes content for OC Sports Zone.
On Sept. 7, 2007, senior Louis Feinstein connected on three field goals in a 30-6 win over Northwood and on Sept, 20, 2014, sophomore Nick Loveland kicked three field goals in a 30-14 win over Calvary Chapel.
Rabold made field goals of 39, 40 and 44 yards, the most ever field goal total yardage for a Uni kicker since stats have been compiled, Bogard added.
The 99-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dylan Elmer to Rabold tied the record for the longest in school history, according to Bogard and his spotter Randy Kunin of the University Booster Club.
On Sep 1, 2017, Tristan Lucas hauled in a 99-yard TD pass in a 33-18 win over Laguna Hills, according to Bogard and Kunin.
University (1-1) plays at Estancia (2-0) Friday night.
