Segerstrom High School’s football team improved its record to 2-1 with a 28-27 home victory over Barstow Friday night.
Barstow (0-3) put up a battle against the Jaguars.
“We were led by our seniors on a night where we recognized our school’s’ 20th anniversary,” said Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “We were pleased by the effort our boys put out there for all four quarters, which is what ultimately made the difference in the game.
“Offensively Ayden Morales led the charge for the Jaguars accounting for two rushing touchdowns and several first down runs that kept the offense on the field.”

Segerstrom also had a strong defensive effort.
“Defensively our line played a solid game led by Vicente Rivera, Isaiah Gomez, Josh Preciado and Josh Preciado,” Tagaloa said. “The secondary was led by outside linebacker Roman Saucedo who had a big interception in the fourth quarter to essentially seal the game.
“Our special teams came up big when it mattered as we were perfect on extra point kicks. Josh Martinez made all four of his kicks which proved to be the difference in the game.
“I am really proud of everyone’s effort that was given for all four quarters. We really stepped up vs. a tough Barstow team. Now it’s time to learn and prepare to go back on the road for a Thursday game vs. Arlington.”
Arlington (1-2) is coming off a 33-23 victory over Fontana.
