Eight teams entered in first Fullerton summer girls flag football tournament July 26

The first Fullerton End Zone Elite Girls Flag Football Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 26, at Fullerton High School, according to Indians Coach Frank Ramirez.

Eight varsity teams will be competing in the event on the main field at Fullerton and field two by the softball field.

“We will have three refs per field and games will be 30 minutes, running clock,” Ramirez said. “We will use regulation size field and new CIF rules will apply.”

Teams in the varsity gold division will be Fullerton, Garey, Ayala and Bellflower. Teams in the silver division will be La Habra, Lakewood, Gahr and San Clemente.

Fullerton will face Garey at 8:30 a.m., Bellflower at 9:50 a.m. and Ayala at 11:50 a.m., all on field one.

La Habra will meet Gahr at 8:30 a.m., San Clemente at 10:30 a.m. and Lakewood at 11:10 a.m. on field two.

San Clemente will also face Lakewood at 9:10 a.m. and Gahr at 11:50 a.m. on field two.

The championship will be at 12:30 p.m.

Fullerton, in the first year of CIF sanctioned playoffs, lost to Santa Monica 28-6 in the CIF Division 4 finals last season. The Indians, who finished 18-7, had won 11 games in a row going into the final.

Ramirez is optimistic about the season with 74 girls signed up for flag football.

“The sport is growing fast. We will have a freshman team, a JV (team) and varsity this year,” he said.

A JV tournament will be held after the varsity tournament is concluded on July 26, Ramirez added.
